Description
Current Lot Important blackduck, John English, Bordentown, New Jersey, last quarter 19th century. From John English's personal hunting rig, and branded "J. ENGLISH". Detailed feather paint on head. Finely detailed wing tip and tail feather carving. This is in the best condition of any John English, lowhead blackduck that we have seen. Original paint with minor discoloration and wear; a few small dents. Collection of Gene and Linda Kangas, who purchased the decoy at a 1990 Richard Oliver decoy auction. Formerly in the collections of John Holloway, Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey; Talbert Loveland, West Creek, New Jersey; and Captain Clarence Mathis, Tucke "New Jersey Decoys", Henry Fleckenstein, p. 194, exact decoy.
